Sylvain Trépout

Sylvain Trépout

Sylvain Trépout completed his PhD in 2008 in Bordeaux, France, under the supervision of Dr. Lambert. He worked on determining the structure of a bacterial efflux pump using cryo-ET and sub-tomogram averaging (STA). After his PhD, Sylvain did his first postdoc at EMBL Heidelberg, Germany, to explore the ultrastructure of prokaryotes in particular the structure of peptidoglycan again using cryo-ET and STA. Then, he moved to the Institut Curie in Orsay, France, to perform his second postdoc to work on the flagellum structure of T. brucei. Concomitantly, he explored the possibilities of using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) on biological samples. In 2014, as EM facility manager and EM group leader, he focused mainly on cryo-STEM methods and developed cryo-STEM tomography and sparse STEM imaging. After 8 years working at the Institut Curie, he moved to the Ramaciotti Centre for Cryo-EM at Monash University as a research fellow in April 2022. At Monash, Sylvain is responsible for the cryo-ET data collection and analysis, including the STA workflow. He is also responsible for the second Titan Krios installed in 2023 at the Ramaciotti Centre.
